CAPTAINS LOG
Written by Rob & Hilly Ward

Yet another month has gone and we are now into July when we had the Fuller Cup and a very popular winner - Bernie Bristowe. My “Captain’s Charity Day” in July was a great success, and over £5500 was raised for the Bobath Centre; many thanks to everyone who took part, especially all those who assisted during the day.

At the end of July there was the Mirk Cup which was a mixed game played on the Sunday afternoon; we had quite a good turn-out this year (actually, most of the mixed competitions this year have been well attended, so thanks everyone for that!). My playing partner was Claire Hawthorn and we were pipped to the post by only one point by our playing partners, PJ Hughes and this year’s Ladies’ Captain, Lynwen Bailey. They needed PJ’s hole-in-one on the 16th to win the match! The Men’s Invitation Day was played on August 1st which was won this year by Tommy Gallagher and his playing partner, me, with 43 points. Harvey Harris got a hole in one on the third. A fun day was had by all.

FROM THE PRESIDENT

When I last wrote we were basking in hot weather and lots of sunshine. July as we know has been a wet one but thankfully not to the detriment of some great golf and work continuing on the course.

June saw a wonderful Captain’s week-end supported by many members of the club and I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Peter Marsh for winning the overall prize. Thankfully the bad weather stayed away for Paul’s ‘drive in’ on the Sunday and the club photograph. It was great to see so many members in the photograph but hopefully next year we can get many more!

With regard to continuing work in and around the club, the 6th and 16th tees are progressing well and the 8th is very near completion. I hope you have noticed that the lounge, club entrance and ladies toilet have been freshened up and I would like to thank Liam O’Mahoney for his hard work in completing these so efficiently.

Enfield

Our Junior Team fought back for a great half at Bush Hill Park on
Sunday 12 July to lead at the top of the Middlesex League. Another
fine performance from Henry Montague at the end of the field secured
a well deserved draw.

Bush Hill fielded Lagi (Stavros Flatly) who recently starred in
Britains Got Talent and took time out for photos with our team. He
played against Harry O'Brien playing his first ever Cadet Game. One
he'll remember for a long time!

FOXES 2009 SEASON
Written by Jim Hawthorn
Tuesday, 11 August 2009

Well considering I was a rookie ‘Fox’ last year, after being a member of the club for nine years, I was honored take over the helm as Foxes Captain this year from Tony Parker. The season has started off well, after a slightly disappointing performance at the Spring Meeting. However, we are now near the closing stages with only one game remaining against Finchley who seem to have a grip on the title now! Muswell Hill, last year’s champions, have suffered some heavy defeats and it now looks like Finchley are the main contenders….. apart from North Middlesex of course!
